Description

This course introduces students to the Chinese legal system, examines law and regulations relevant to doing business in China in detail and offers practical knowledge on business in China. It is also suited to law students who are interested in Chinese law or who aspire for an international career and want to acquire international perspectives in their legal studies. It covers an overview of the legal system, dealing with such issues as power distribution and governance structure of the country, the sources of law and legislation, law enforcement and the judicial system; Chinese legal traditions and their influence on the contemporary legal system; theoretical questions of rule of law and the role of law in economic development; and law and regulations on business organizations, foreign direct investment, labour and environmental regulations, taxation, financial regulations and foreign exchange control, intellectual property rights and dispute resolution.
